MOVED

I just thought I’d let everyone know: this blog is not active anymore. I’ve moved, over to The Racked Focus. Please, if you like what you’ve read here, go there and check out everything that’s going on! I’m moving the reviews I’ve written here over to there, and adding new content regularly. Thank you for all  of your support!

Fuck You, Mark Zuckerberg, and Fuck Your Website, Too

Note: I still consider this blog basically dead. I’m only posting here because Facebook’s status update has a character limit of 420. Fuck you for that, too Zuckerberg. To those that stumble upon this from outside of my “circle of friends” (right, more like some mutant baby of a triangle and an octagon) on Facebook, feel free to comment if you want. I don’t care. I just wanted to get this message in its entirety to the people who are my “friends” on Facebook. Although it’s directed mainly at my actual friends. Anyway, keep reading if you want.

I’m just letting everyone know that I’m gonna “delete” my account here on Facebook. Yeah, I know, I can’t actually delete it. Because Mark Zuckerberg has decided that an eternity in hell is worth being such a douchebag on earth. Well, Mr. Zuckerberg. All I have to say is: I can’t wait until “The Social Network” comes out and we can all see you for your fucking douchebag, sex-crazed, asshole self. Wanna know more? Look here: http://j.mp/9rEI6U

…Anyway. I’m gonna leave my account up for a while so you all can actually see this message and know I’m gone, but by next week, this account will be gone. If you want to get a hold of me, email me (nathandonarum@gmail.com) or call me (if you have my number), or even IM me. Whatever. Facebook is a waste of my time, and it’s a pain in the ass. It’s really insecure, doesn’t give half a SHIT about my privacy, and in the end, it’s a worthless website. Plus, it’s run by one of the biggest douches on the planet. Fuck you, Mark Zuckerberg, and fuck your little website, too. South Park was completely on target with its episode about Facebook. Sure, I don’t have to play into the game of trying to have the most friends, or make the biggest farm on Farmville, or have the highest score on whatever game, or have the most compliments, or the most nice things said about me or whatever. I haven’t played into that. I’ve used Facebook mainly as a promotional tool for my blog. But Twitter works for that, and if I want to delete my Twitter account, THE WEBSITE DOESN’T STORE ALL MY FUCKING INFORMATION TO DO WITH IT AS IT PLEASES. See, that’s the problem. I can stay on Facebook and not play along with its fucked up games, but that doesn’t change the fundamental problems with it. Mark Zuckerberg and the whole Facebook team need to reevaluate themselves. For all those people out there who hates the way they’re taken advantage of by other giant corporations (Banks, Oil Companies, Wal-Mart, you name your poison), Facebook is no different. I, for one, am fucking sick of it.

To those of you who think I’m getting all pissed over a useless issue, or a miniscule problem, I don’t really have a response. I consider my ethical integrity to be more important than playing into the idea that I HAVE to have a Facebook account. The very idea of things having to be “Facebook official” disgusts me. And I know it doesn’t to all of you. But it does to me.

I hope this explanation, as swear-ridden and angry as it is, is satisfactory. Again, if you need to get a hold of me, there are TOO MANY WAYS outside of this dumb site. Email me. Or call me. In the age of Facebook, getting an email from a friend every now and then is more than enough to put a smile on my face.

Peace,
Good Bye,
May the Force be with you,
Live long and prosper,
All that fucking wonderful stuff,
-Nathan

p.s. There is a small movement of people planning an exodus from Facebook on May 31. Although I won’t be participating in that, I do support them. Maybe you should, too. Check them out HERE.

If God Was A Hippie Stoner

That’s basically the character I played in a play I was in over the weekend. It was a student-written one-act play. Tons of fun. I loved it. It was an Adam and Eve story. I wish I could go into more detail, but I guess you would’ve had to have seen it. People seemed to be pretty positive about it. They really liked the play, and my performance. I mean, there is a reason I was a theater major before switching to political studies. I love the stage. I come alive. …Anyway. Now that the play is over, and I’ve finished Battlestar Galactica, I’ve been catching up on LOST. Until now I hadn’t seen any episodes of the fifth season. But now I’m working my way through them.

I’ll be posting more frequently, too, like before. Things just got very, very hectic with the play going on over the weekend and such.

About The Film Reviews

As you can see below, I’m beginning to post some of the old film reviews I’d written over at Cineviews. I’ll stagger those in, so there’s not a flood of posts for film reviews. Shouldn’t be a huge problem.

So Say We All

NOTE: There may be SPOILERS about the series finale to Battlestar Galactica. Continue reading at your own peril.

This post is a little late, admittedly. The series finale was, after all, more than a week ago. But I technically didn’t watch it until a few days after it premiered, and I wanted my chance to comment. … But I’m lazy. So, I’m going to direct you to James Berardinelli’s response right here. The following is my response to his post (with a few changes, in tenses, etc.).

I really think he summed up the entirety of how I felt about the ending. At least one big part of me. It’s true. It’s not a perfect ending. Though, what would have been a completely perfect ending? I can’t imagine one. And frankly, I feel satisfied the more I think back on it. I think the best point he makes is,

“What interested me was learning what happened to these characters at the end of their journey and, on that level, the episode delivered.”

There were inconsistencies in the series. Ronald D. Moore admits to that. There are inconsistencies in practically every single series. There are questions left unanswered. And I don’t really mind. I wanted to know what happened to these characters that I had grown to know, and feel for. And that’s what satisfies me. I don’t know if I would have been as satisfied with a nihilistic ending where everyone dies, as some would like to have happened (http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/What+frak+that+Behind+Battlestar+Galactica+ultimate+episode/1423182/story.html). I agree with Ronald D. Moore, who said,

“I was literally never tempted to go that way. I always felt that however brutal the show was, and how bleak it felt in moments, it was never nihilistic. It was never about saying that people are irredeemable. It was about trying to be honest about people, saying, ‘Look at us. We are capable of all these things. Really good people do horrible things and horrible people do good things.'” (http://www.nj.com/entertainment/tv/index.ssf/2009/03/battlestar_galactica_ronald_d.html)

That’s the way I felt throughout the series. That despite everything, despite the darkness, and despite the hurt and the pain, and yes, at times the nihilism of the whole thing, there was hope. And I wanted so badly for everyone to find a home (Earth?). I cannot, then, say I hated the ending. I felt that, in a strange way, it was fitting. I think, no matter what the ending was, I would feel some form of dissatisfaction. I loved the show. It’s over. I can’t help that. But I’m glad that the people I spent the last 5 years with finally found the home they were looking for.

So Say We All.

The First Post

Well, here it is. My… third? Or fourth? …One of those. We’ll just say my most recent attempt at making a blog (and sticking with it). I’ve tried blogging in the past. I did blogging on Talking Points Memo for a long while during the election. I also tried (and failed) at making a movie blogging site. Those are my main two interests. Politics and movies. I can’t really get along without either of those. So, that’s going to be my focus here: politics and movies. But I’m going to leave myself open to talk about anything else there is to talk about on my mind. Still, since most of what’s on my mind worth talking about are in those two subject areas, there will probably be more of a focus on those areas than on any others.

It’s going to be an arduous journey. My movie blog actually started getting views (though how many returning and frequent visitors, I don’t know). It’s going to take a long while to get this one going as well. Hopefully some advertising with friends and family will start things up (though no jumping the gun! I wanna get some stuff on the site first!)

I’m going to transfer the film reviews I wrote over at Cineviews to this blog. I’ll slowly filter those in… And I’ll start writing more reviews of other films, especially recent ones I’ve seen. I hope to get a groove going with those, maybe one or two a week? Posted on the weekends.

Anyway, I’m excited for this fresh start, and for those (very few, if any) who read this, I hope this is the beginning of a… well… an interesting experiment.
